October 2005

Buenos Diaz my little muchachos.

On the 22nd of October the M bar M spread held its third Cowboy Action Shoot. This was due to demand and blackmail by club members. It was well attended. Even members new to Cowboy Action Shooting quickly entered into the spirit of the event .One first time participant did not do too well in stage one with the pistol. However he soon settled down and went on to do very well indeed and thoroughly enjoyed himself. By the end of the day he was a complete convert to Cowboy Action Shooting.

Late into the morning, but before high noon, three tough looking hombres on the prod rode into the M bar M spread looking to check out this new discipline They, as it turned out, were dyed in the wool rifle shooters (so hard to please). Guess what gang - they found it had more twists and turns than a politician’s speech and it was much more fun to boot.

In one scenario the competitors had to shoot a tin can off of a post to gain bonus points. As some of the fastest guns found out, fast is fine but accuracy is final. One pistolero Alias Hawk an absolute aficionado of Cow boy Action shooting shot his pistol stages in what is know as the gunfighter class (that’s shooting one handed to the uninitiated).

Cold steel was back from his two-week trip to Australia half of which was spent shooting Cowboy Action down under. He wore the whole kit, collar less shirt, twin holster pistol rig, hat, and a large bowie knife, the whole nine yards. Don’t you just hate people like that. (Only joking) Thanks for the tee shirt by the way. Needless to say I’m going to have to keep my eye on him.

More and more participants are wearing clothes of the western era. One competitor turned up in a very colourful Mexican poncho, his alias was guess…….Poncho Dave. He looked very much the Clint Eastwood part.

The bad news was that the Preacher was not there due to illness. He’s been ill for the past six weeks, he’s one of the leading lights of Cowboy Action Shooting so get well soon. His place in helping to run things was taken by Stumpy and his son junior thanks guys much appreciated.

Once again Wishbone the cook was on hand to serve up hotdogs and hamburgers I believe everyone enjoyed his belly warmers.

As the gun smoke cleared at the end of a fun filled day, tired little cowpokes moseyed their way on home, contemplating the next exciting return to yesteryear.
