August 2006

Hi there my little Chattanooga choo choos

The M bar M spread hosted its second Cowboy Action Shoot of the season on the 19th of August. Those grim and ghastly weather pundits had forecast a dull, damp, an altogether desperate day. However my little Kansas cowtown critters, we had what only could be described as a glorious four hours. The day was bathed in the warm golden rays of a rather balmy summer’s day. (That’s not say it did not p*** down once it was over, however that’s another story).

The shoot was full of wicked twists and turns. The posse that organised it is getting seriously warped. I’m worried if they are allowed to play with anything sharp. Stages, included shucking a scatter gun, shooting a lever action rifle plus I might add, blasting away with pistol, all from a leather saddle firmly attached to Buttercup the wooden horse. Also engaging in this mayhem while making sure the dummy that you rescued from the clutches of some vile villains does not topple and fall from the horse. This proved to be an absolute hoot.

That not to your liking? How about tossing mock dynamite at some heavy-duty outlaws, or grasping a pistol in each hand and thumbing the hammer for each shot. Not easy, unless of course you are a smart arse! Now who could forget that piece-de-resistance the Vigilante lynching of that Montana miscreant Gamblin’ Jack, a dastardly desperado of the worst kind. (Just in case the PC brigade is perplexed, it was a dummy! But it was all done in the best possible taste!) Meanwhile back at the ranch, a new young gunslinger was making his presence known. He went by the mocking alias of El Diablo. This participant was new to Cowboy Action but had come well prepared, dressed from head to tippy toe in the appropriate western garb. From Stetson to cowboy boots, this kid was out to enjoy the spirit of the occasion and he surely did.

However……… this hombre was not alone for his Ma had also come along to enjoy the day by dressing as a western saloon gal, complete with Victorian ankle boots, fishnet stockings plus garter. The Bridgetown Rebel had to be restrained (I worry about that boy!). the calico queen did not shoot but does intend to in the near future. We all look forward to EL Diablo’s Ma making another entrance with eager anticipation. You will notice I have not made any sexist remarks…….. My wife won’t let me!

Before I close, this is where I grovel and say congratulations the Lone Stranger for winning and helping to R.O. A big thank you to Hawk for loaning me one of his customised Colts for this competition. Much appreciated. Let’s not forget all the hard work put in by the Preacher in making the props. Thanks guys.

That’s it my little buffalo chips, till we meet again and thrill to those days of yesteryear.

Happy trails,

The Tombstone Kid.
