Practical Mini Rifle

Practical Mini Rifle differs from Practical Pistol only in the firearms used and the size of targets. I shall not repeat the information here - see Practical Pistol.

Any semi-automatic rifle chambered for .22LR will do. These all happen to be Ruger 10/22s in various guises.

The Ruger 10/22 can be bought quite cheaply in the basic no frills configuration and modified bit by bit as necessity requires / money allows. It may also be obtained as a fully 'tricked up' piece of equipment from a specialist custom builder.

It is very easy to have a great deal of fun shooting even simple stages, using no more than a table, a chair a few shoot boxes and simple props like an empty bean tin. We started our PMR experience shooting postal competitions using this sort of setup. It was possible to have four simple stages set up on our 25 meter indoor range and only use about 6 meters wide. It was not proper PMR but it was so much fun that a number of people bought rifles. We quickly made more props and moved outside to allow us longer range.

These pictures were taken a few years ago during our first outdoor competition. You can see that we were still very short of props, so we made do with a few old tyres and an up- turned table. Our range has since been upgraded to an all weather surface, and we have invested a considerable sum in props (see practical pistol page).
